Laser Treatment

The top layer of skin is ablated using these lasers, causing new and smoother skin to grow in place of it which results in less visible scarring.
Laser treatment for scars also works by effectively lowering the level of the top layer of skin so that it sits at the level of the indented scarred skin, achieving a more even and level looking skin surface. In addition to treating acne scars, this method is also ideal for those who want to treat sun damaged, pigmented or wrinkled skin. This type of laser treatment usually takes around two weeks to fully recover from.
Fractional lasers can also be used to treat acne scarring, but rather than treating the whole skin surface like carbon dioxide lasers, fractional lasers fire small columns of laser energy into the skin and only treat targeted areas. These small columns of laser energy penetrate deep into the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. This causes the atrophic scars to essentially rise up to meet the level of the unscarred skin.
Skin Needling
Skin needling or microneedling is another effective method of treating scars. Also known as dermal rolling, skin needling is a form of collagen induction therapy that’s minimally invasive and uses a micro-needling device to injure the skin. However, this is done in a controlled manner, with the fine needles puncturing the skin to stimulate the body to produce new collagen. This new collagen fills the cavities caused by scars, resulting in the formation of new capillaries which helps to ensure smoother skin texture and increased resistance to future scarring.
Skin needling benefits include its fairly quick recovery time and its ability to be repeated if necessary, as it doesn’t harm the epidermis. Skin needling side effects can include some slight swelling and oozing before the skin finishes healing, and as with any treatment that causes a wound, there’s also the possibility of infection, although this is very uncommon. It’s most likely that some discomfort and slight swelling will be the extent of your skin needling side effects after a treatment.
